How much does it cost to send money from the U.S. to Mexico?

Learn how transfer fees, exchange rates and other charges affect the total cost of sending money to Mexico.

When comparing services that send money from the United States to Mexico, an advertised transfer fee does not tell the entire story. The exchange rate and any applicable charges can change both the amount you pay and the pesos your recipient gets.

1. What makes up the total cost of a money transfer?

Look at three figures: your total out-of-pocket cost in USD, the USD/MXN conversion rate and the final amount your recipient receives in pesos. Depending on the transaction and its terms, there may also be payment-method, provider or third-party charges.

2. A zero-dollar transfer fee does not always mean more pesos

One service may advertise a zero fee but offer a less favorable exchange rate. Another may charge a visible fee but deliver more pesos. Always compare offers using the same total USD spend, rather than comparing the fee in isolation.

3. Hypothetical comparison: two options for a total of $350

Option A: out of a total $350 payment, a $4 fee is deducted and $346 is converted at an illustrative 19.00 MXN/USD rate. The recipient gets 6,574 MXN. Option B: with no separate fee, the full $350 is converted at 18.65 MXN/USD, giving 6,527.50 MXN. In this hypothetical example, A delivers 46.50 MXN more despite a visible fee. Neither exchange rate is a current offer.

4. What is an FX markup?

An FX markup is the difference between a benchmark rate and the rate used for conversion, measured on a comparable basis. It can be part of a service’s price even when it is not displayed as a separate charge. Review the quote and applicable terms to understand what you would actually pay.

5. What should you check before authorizing a transfer?

Confirm the total USD payment, transfer fee and other applicable charges, exchange rate, amount delivered in MXN and the disclosed delivery timeframe. Also review the payment method and applicable cancellation and refund terms.

6. Can I use the Pepe Pagos calculator to compare prices?

The Pepe Pagos website currently shows simulations using Bridge’s Sandbox environment. Figures may differ from live production rates or fees and are not executable offers. Final pricing and delivery amounts must be confirmed before payment.
